Get ready for the holiday reading season with Holly Schindler’s Ruby’s Place Christmas Collection!
Every December, I pause my TBR pile to read as many Christmas books as I can get my hands on. I have a collection of Christmas books that takes up a whole shelf in my library. While I always revisit old favorites, I love to make room for new books each year.
Since 2017, I’ve been following Holly Schindler’s Ruby’s Place Christmas Collection, a series that tells the story of a special restaurant/bar/supper club/speakeasy (depending on the decade) where Christmas past is never far away and the spirits behind the bar aren’t nearly as interesting as the ones who visit it for their own ghostly take on happy hour. Make a reservation for Christmas Eve, and you might get the best gift of all—one more evening with a special person from your own Christmas past.
In Christmas at Ruby’s (2017),a middle-aged and disillusioned Angela returns to town and discovers that the grown-up supper club she visited with her glamorous aunt every Christmas Eve as a young girl has closed down. But a little snooping leads to the discovery that ghosts from the old days show up every evening at happy hour when Ruby (the proprietor and a ghost herself) pours their signature drinks. Angela just might find joy in her “second act” after all…
In I Remember You (2018), Angela is working to reopen Ruby’s Place byChristmas Eve, but most of the story focuses on Geena and Rob, high school sweethearts who went their separate ways back in the ’80s. Can Ruby’s Place give them a second chance?
This year’s Sentimental Journey takes us further back, to the days of Prohibition when the building was a speakeasy, and tells the story of Chester and Dorothy, a young married couple separated by the Great Depression who’ve been hoping for a Christmas Eve reunion for over 80 years.
Author Holly Schindler will visit on Black Friday to talk about the latest book in the series. Pick up your copies now and check back here after Thanksgiving for Holly’s take on the series.
Bonus: Read my interview with Holly about her episodic novel, Forever Finley. It begins with “Come December,” another great seasonal read.
